Eco-Cycle Economy At a recent seminar in Tallinn, arranged by the Swedish Trade Council and the Swedish Embassy in cooperation with Ragn-Sells Estonia, recycling and eco-cycle economy were discussed by Estonian and Swedish experts.

- Both Estonia and Sweden have since a number of years focused on supporting a sustainable and environmental friendly lifestyle, said Janar Sutt, Country Manager at the Swedish Trade Council in Estonia.

Recently published statistics show that Sweden keeps its position as a world leader in recycling. 70% of all Swedish packagings were recycled last year and Estonia is not far behind.

- A bit more than 60% of all packagings are now recycled in Estonia, says Triin Simmulson at Ragn-Sells Estonia.

At the seminar, Viktoria Ingman from the Swedish Ministry of the Environment gave an overview on Swedish legislation, long term recycling goals and producers' responsibility. Her colleague from the Estonian Ministry of the Environment, Peeter Eek, gave an update on Estonia's experiences in recycling and Britt Sahleström from The Swedish Recycling Industries' Association gave a brief on Swedish environmental friendly waste handling. Rein Leipalu, Managing Director at Ragn-Sells Estonia, presented his company's experiences in waste management operations in both Sweden and Estonia.

- If Sweden is a world model in recycling and eco-cycle economy, the fast development in Estonia has distinguished this country in the Baltic Sea area. These are areas where our two countries can learn from each other and we have a big potential for cooperation, both in the private and public sectors, said Janar Sutt.

Waste management, recycling and eco-cycle economy are vital parts of Sweden's commitment for promoting investments in the Cleantech area. Sweden is a world leader in clean technologies and cleantech applications, and there are numerous opportunities for foreign investors in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
