Estonian-Swedes have most probably been living along the north-western Estonian coastline and the neighbouring islands for close to 1.000 years. The area mainly included todays Noarootsi
municipality (Sw: Nuckö), Vormsi (Sw: Ormsö), Ruhnu (Sw: Runö) in the bay of Riga and the countryside around Haapsalu.

The first settlements were rather modest fishing villages and over time, Estonian-Swedes got privileges based on "the right to reside and manage their property in accordance with Swedish law".
The modern Estonian-Swedish times of today started towards the end of the 1980’s and Estonia’s regained independence 1991.

The Estonian-Swedish touch of Noarootsi and the islands is indeed picking up again. Not only as a hub for the Estonian-Swedish population but also in terms of Swedish-Estonian business, commerce and trade.
In this section of the Swedish Chamber’s of Commerce in Estonia website, we are pleased to present news on activities and events arranged by Estonian-Swedish associations.
