OECD: "Estonia's tax system can be enhanced"
- Estonia has earned a strong reputation for fiscal discipline, says OECD's first Economic Survey on Estonia, since the country became a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, December 9th last year.
- However, with the benefit of hindsight, it is clear that the structural fiscal position deteriorated during the boom preceding the crisis, as cyclical revenues were used to finance an increase in structural public expenditure. Estonia's tax system can be enhanced to support fiscal consolidation and economic growth, says the OECD Economic Survey.
Best in class 2010
Though being small, Estonia ended 2010 with a budget surplus, report Eurostat. The surplus ended up at +0,1% of the GDP making Estonia best in class in this league last year.
