Swedish Language Nest in Hapsal Swedish Language Nest in Hapsal

An initiative has been taken to bring back new life to the Swedish language in Estonia by arranging a Swedish language nest at Ilon’s Wonderland in Hapsal (Haapsalu). SCCE has decided to support the initiative by contributing with 500 € and we now invite our members to also make contributions with funding options starting at 25 €.

- Before the second world war some 8.000 Estonian-Swedes resided in Estonia. Today, around 400 Estonian-Swedes remain. We need to take urgent measures if we want to save and protect what remains of the Swedish language and the Swedish culture in Estonia, says Mikael Sjövall, the initiator of the Swedish language nest.

- We need funds to be able to employ pedagogic staff, buy art supplies and arrange meaningful activities in Swedish for the children, concludes Mikael Sjövall.

Funding options and further information on the Swedish language nest is available here.
