In 1856, André Oscar Wallenberg founded Sweden's first commercial bank. 120 acquisitions and mergers later it is SEB, one of Northern Europe's leading banks serving more than 400,000 corporate customers and institutions and more than five million customers in the Nordic and Baltic countries, Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and a strategic presence through its international network in another ten countries.
Towards the end of 1992 ten small banks in Estonia decided to merge and that is how Eesti Ühispank was born. In 2005 the name was changed to SEB Eesti Ühispank and three years later, in 2008, it is SEB - a member of the SEB Group.
Today SEB is the second largest bank in Estonia and also a universal bank providing its services to all customers in Estonia who need them: private persons, corporate customers and the public sector. SEB offers all financial services available on the Estonian market and supports the customers of the SEB Group in investing their assets in Central and Eastern Europe.
Being a member of the SEB Group, SEB is more international than the local banks, yet at the same time it is more local than the international banks.
Throughout its history SEB has been a leading developer of customer services and products. Swedish by birth, SEB has always been international in its outlook and a crucial partner for many of the successful multinational corporations and prosperous individuals to emerge from the Nordic countries.
SEB has experienced its share of ups and downs, serving its clients through wars, depressions, booms and busts. With a keen understanding of the customers ever-changing needs, SEB has built a strong tradition of long-term business relationships.
