image: A touch of a real Swedish Christmas A touch of a real Swedish Christmas

Tallinn was decorated in white as SCCE held its annual Christmas Party last week. It was a blizzard outside and at Meriton Grand Conference & Spa Hotel's White Piano Bar our tables and chairs were all in white with two richly equipped Christmas Buffets waiting for us.

We gathered and got together over a glass of glögg and SCCE's chairman Anders Hedman and SCCE's ombudsman Kristiina Sikk wished all welcome to this year's traditional Christmas Party. Kristiina Sikk also took the opportunity and introduced three new members in SCCE; Restaurant Nunne 7, Aivar Pilv Law Office and Parvus Finance Group Europe.

This year SCCE could also welcome a group from Svenska Odlingens Vänner i Estland (Rootsi Hariduse Selts Eestis), an association formed in 1909 as a cultural association for Estonian-Swedes and nowadays being active in both Estonia and Sweden.

A considerable part of the Swedish Christmas Buffet specialties had this year been specially brought from Sweden by Gunnar Andersson, Nordic Lint; julskinka, pressylta, julkorv, kalvsylta, sill, köttbullar, prinskorv, lutfisk, julmust... As a sign of appreciation Gunnar got a diploma naming him The Chamber's Christmas Champion 2010.

No Swedish Christmas Party will take place without music and singing, and SCCE's vice chairman Karolina Ullman started it all up with a couple of nubbe-songs. A bit later on she got support from SCCE's quickly arranged male choir and throughout the party Anna Kutšinskaja, accompanied by saxophone and grand piano, sang us the well known Christmas songs.

Mats Wojidkow from SCCE's new member Parvus Finance Group Europe gave us all a real musical Christmas gift as he sang O Helga Natt (O Holy Night). Originating from France (Le Cantique de Noël) this Christmas song has become The Christmas Song in Swedish Christmas celebrations.

On behalf of the SCCE Council I would like to thank the team at Meriton Grand Conference & Spa Hotel for a truly nice set up of the Christmas Party. My thanks also go to Gunnar Andersson for his initiative to bring Swedish Christmas specialties to the Party, and to all participants for creating an evening filled with a touch of a real Swedish Christmas.

Kristiina Sikk
