image: Svensk Husmanskost at its best Svensk Husmanskost at its best
Restaurant Pärl in Pirita has got a Swedish touch both in terms of ownership and menu. At their grand re-opening last Saturday the guests were offered a true touch of Sweden with a generous buffet of Svensk Husmanskost - Swedish plain food - at its very best.

Classic Swedish dishes were served including several kinds of Inlagd Sill (marinated herring), Inlagd Strömmingsflundra (marinated flounders of Baltic herring), Potatissallad (Swedish styled potato salad), Kåldolmar (stuffed cabbage rolls), Janssons Frestelse (Jansson's temptation - a traditional Swedish casserole), Swedish cheeses and desserts.

- Our ambition is to serve a wide variety of home cooked Swedish specialties, both plain food and delicacies, said Mats Wojidkow, Pärl's Swedish Chef and also the restaurant's occasional entertainer at the grand piano.

Peter Jaegerstierna, Pärl's Managing Director, could welcome a large number of guests this premiere evening including Swedes, Estonian-Swedes, Swedish-Estonians as well as Estonians.

Most of the guests took the opportunity and studied the upcoming menu which will include a complete tour of the Swedish cuisine, from SOS to Plankstek. The Swedes had a good time explaining for the Estonians that SOS doesn't indicate a state of emergency on the menu; it stands for Smör, Ost och Sill (butter, cheese and herring). And Plankstek is a dish where beef or fish with accessories are put on a piece of wood and finalized in a very hot oven for a short while (it's being kept there almost until the wood catches fire).

Restaurant - Lounge Pärl is located at Pirita Rannahoone, Merivälja tee 5, and the menu will be up at their website Reservations can be made by e-mail or by phone (+372) 529 7459.

On behalf of the SCCE Council I would like to thank Peter Jaegerstierna and his team at Restaurant - Lounge Pärl for a very nice evening and I also wish them success and all the best in providing a touch of Sweden next to Pirita beach.
