Just a click away: the first autumn issue of e-focus, now online at www.swedishchamber.ee/efocus.
The 20th Anniversary
The 20th Anniversary of Estonia's restored independence has been duly celebrated and e-focus has taken a look at the festive events in Tallinn and Stockholm. And, e-focus also had a talk with Kaire Papp - 20 years old, the same age as Estonia's restored independence.
Ups & Downs
Following Fitch Ratings' upgraded sovereign rating of Estonia to A+ in July, Standard & Poor's made an August Estonian upgrade to AA-.
On the international financial media scene Estonia's upgradings drowned in the news on S&P's downgrading of the US rating to AA+ from its former top rating AAA.
For better, for worse
- The euro will survive, but on a long term basis there are big challenges ahead, said Annika Winsth, Chief Economist at Nordea Bank, as the eurozone recently was discussed.
Price Levels
Somewhat frustrated, Tallinn consumers could note that while paying the equivalent to some 0,84€ for a kilo of sugar one year ago, this year's August price had gone up to 1,42€ - almost a 70% price increase.
As the sugar prices were discussed in Estonia, Eurostat - the statistical office of the European Union published their 2010 price level indices for consumer goods and services.
Remains in Office
At the end of August Parliament voting, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves was re-elected for a second five year term of Office.
