Tapa means "lid" or "cover" in Spanish. And, in a way you could say that SCCE, together with members of the British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce, took cover from the November darkness as we met for a couple of After Business Hours at Meriton Old Town Garden Hotel's Tapas Bar & Restaurant.
- It's nice to be in a warm, relaxed and cozy atmosphere, and equally nice to meet members of the British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce, said SCCE's Chairman Anders Hedman.
- There are several explanations for why Tapas has come to denote these delicious Spanish snacks. One is that Tapas would often be placed on top of a drink to cover it and protect it from flies, said Meriton Old Town Garden Hotel's Mihail Burõhh as he welcomed his guests this Tuesday evening, November 15th.
Another explanation says that the name Tapas originates from the 16th century. Some Spanish tavern owners are said to have found out that the strong taste and smell of mature cheese, preferably placed on a piece of bread, could help disguise the taste and smell of bad wine, thus "covering" it.
There was however definitely no need for covering any taste or smell of bad wines this evening. The wines were excellent and disappeared very fast.
And equally delicious were the Tapas, specially made for us by the Head Chef of the Tapas Bar & Restaurant. He had actually also prepared some Tapas with a very Estonian touch.
On behalf of the SCCE Council I would like to thank Meriton Old Town Garden Hotel's Tapas Bar & Restaurant and the British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce for a couple of very nice After Business Hours together.
Sincerely,
Kristiina Sikk
