SEB’s Ruta Arumäe and Peeter Koppel on Estonia’s Competitiveness

“We believe that the export competitiveness of the Baltics will remain good, but with a warning of a possible slower trend in Estonia, which already stands out because of its relatively high pay increases and inflation”, writes SEB in this autumn’s issue of the bank’s Eastern European Outlook.

Estonia’s competitiveness in a challenging domestic and international economical environment was the main topic at SCCE’s November 7th focus Round Table Meeting at Nordic Hotel Forum in Tallinn.

Ruta Arumäe, SEB’s Chief Economist for macroeconomic analysis, addressed the issue from an Estonian horizon, and her colleague Peeter Koppel, SEB’s Private Banking Strategist, took a pragmatic look at some of the major economies around the world.

Moderated by Mikael Orkomies, Partner at Excedea, the discussion following Ruta’s and Peeter’s presentations highlighted domestic consumption, wages, inflation and exports.

A full report on the meeting will follow in the coming issue of SCCE’s magazine focus.

On behalf of the SCCE Council, I would like to thank Ruta Arumäe, Peeter Koppel, Mikael Orkomies and all participants for an interesting focus Round Table Meeting. My thanks also go to Feliks Mägus and his team at Nordic Hotel Forum for a very nice meeting set up and a delicious lunch buffet.
