Based on personal memories shared by non-Estonians/expats in Estonia, Estonian leather designers and artists will this winter and spring start to create leather covers ultimately reflecting and preserving each unique memory story told.
The resulting pieces of leather art will form an installation which will be displayed in an exhibition named MEMORIES UNDER THE SKIN in Tallinn’s Vabadus Art Gallery from November 20th to December 9th this year.
- The objective of this exhibition is to demonstrate that Estonia is not only a single nation country, but that it is inhabited by a vast range of people with diverse cultural backgrounds. We wish to generate an open attitude in Estonia with regards to different cultures, lifestyles and ways of thinking, says the art project’s curators Marje Taska and Reet Varblane.
Marje and Reet has contacted me and asked me to forward their call for memory stories to the non-Estonian members of the SCCE which I am now happy to do.
- We are asking you to share a personal memory of an event, a place or a person that is somehow significant to you, a memory that has gotten under your skin. It is not important that this memory is articulated in a perfect literal way. We are hoping to receive spontaneous stories in any format appropriate to the telling of that story. We are seeking these memories (approx. one A4 page in length) via either our email address, or if preferable, we are available to meet you in person to record these memories. If you wish you can remain anonymous, says Marje and Reet in their call.
Marje’s and Reet’s e-mail addresses are as follows:
marjetaska@gmail.com
reetvarblane@gmail.com
Sincerely,
