Welcomed by a glass of Caipirinha, commonly known as Brazil's national cocktail, SCCE's Wine Academy gathered at Hotel St Petersbourg's newly modernized and refurnished Restaurant Hermitage in Tallinn's Old Town on Thursday evening, October 2nd.
This was the Academy's eight's tasting and lecture session, and this evening we had South American wines on the agenda.
Our Sommelier Gustaf Hertsius, supported by SCCE’s magazine focus' wine columnist Anders Hedman, guided us through the big wine producing countries of the huge South American continent.
The representative selection of wines at this Wine Academy session included: Canario Cachaca, (Brazil); Sauvignon Blanc, Select Terroir, Santa Ema, Maipo, (Chile); Vino Blanco, Amalaya, Salta, (Argentina); Viognier Reserva, Tabali, Limari Valley, (Chile); Chardonnay, Salentein, (Argentina); and, the only red wine this evening, Pinot Noir Single Vineyard “Cahuil”, Leyda, Leyda, (Chile). For the dessert, we made an exception from the South American theme and had a French Sauternes: Chateau De Mauvin, Sauternes, Bordeaux.
Perfectly going along with the wines, Restaurant Hermitage had composed a special and delicious six course dinner for us.
Once again, I would like to thank Gustaf Hertsius and Anders Hedman for their very insightful lecture on the wines we enjoyed. My thanks also go to the entire team at Hotel St Petersbourg's Restaurant Hermitage for a very cozy and nice set up as well as a delicious dinner menu. Last but not least, I would again like to thank all Wine Academy participants for making our session to another nice and cozy evening together.
Sincerely,
Kristiina Sikk
