- Västerbottensost is more than a cheese, it's a Swedish national treasure! And now, Västerbottensost is not only a Purveyor to the Royal Swedish Court, we are also a Royal Member of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, says Ivar Miller, Sales Manager at TERE AS, the distributor of Västerbottensost.
- Västerbottensost is well-known to SCCE's members since it has been on the buffet tables at the Chamber's annual Summer, Crayfish and Christmas Parties since quite some years. And now, Västerbottensost is available for everybody in Estonia at well-stocked RIMI, Selver, Konsum, Maxima, and Stockmann Supermarkets, continues Ivar.
The origin of Västerbottensost dates back to 1872 when a dairy maid in the northern Swedish village Burträsk developed the cheese by fortunate accident. It is rumored that the maid, left alone to stir the curd of a traditional cheese, was distracted by either other duties or a good looking man. As a result, the cheese was heated and stirred at alternate times, producing the unique cheese, nowadays not only loved by Swedes but also by people all over the world.
- Västerbottensost is still produced exclusively in Burträsk and matured for at least 14 months before it is distributed to the Swedish and international markets. Västerbottensost is a true representative for Swedish food and cookery, and it is not only used on plain toasts but also as a refined ingredient in fancier dinner parties and as an appreciated addition on superior cheeseboards. I recommend a visit to our website, www.vasterbottensost.com/en/recipes-menus/, where we have put up a wide variety of recipes and menus with Västerbottensost as a vital ingredient, concludes Ivar Miller.
