As members of the SCCE gathered to try out curling Thursday 17 March, we found out that the basics of the game are simple; deliver your stone in such a way that it ends up at the center of, or at least as close as possible to the center of the target. Now, making that happen is easier said than done.
We learned that delivering the stone has nothing to do with bowling; in curling you slide away the stone. And, by sweeping the ice you can make the stone go further, and if it should hit your opponents stone in the target, you can sweep in front of that one too to make it glide away from the center area.
It turned out that curling is a very fun sport which combines physical and mental skills and above all, just like in business, requires teamwork to succeed. As we went from the introductory practice to competition, we divided in teams and it was indeed amazing teamwork achievements that our four teams - Killers, Radisson, Stoneridge and Sweepers - demonstrated during these very fun and nice SCCE After Business Hours.
As the tournament ended, the Killers team (Sanna Miller and Pontus Hermansson - BigBank, Anders Torell - RIMI, and Kaire Papp - SCCE) won the game and they chose Sanna as their best player. Other best players chosen were Toma Vezyte - Park Inn by Radisson Meriton Conference & Spa Hotel, and Kätlin Bernstein - Stoneridge.
On behalf of the SCCE, I would like to thank Harri from the Estonian Curling Association and Rauno from Tondiraba Jäähall, for an excellent set up and a very good introduction to curling. My thanks also go to Hemtex and Västerbottensost for setting up our prize table, and to RIMI for saving our teamplayers from dehydration. Last but not least, my thanks go to all our participants for making this evening of teamwork very nice, cozy and fun.
Sincerely,
Kristiina Sikk
