SCCE continues the annual tradition of celebrating the birth of the Republic of Estonia. This Centennial Jubilee Year with a Thursday 15 February Premiere Tour of the Estonian History Museum’s new exhibition My Free Country.
The exhibition took us on a journey through 100 years, starting with the time before the 24 February 1918 Declaration of Independence, and the building of and life in the first Republic of Estonia.
World War II and the Soviet occupation and oppression are depicted, and so is the Singing Revolution and the Baltic Chain which contributed to Estonia’s restored Independence on 20 August 1991.
The exhibition concludes with the life and opportunities in the young and contemporary Republic, and ends with a futuristic vision of Estonia in 1000 years.
My Free Country opened for the public on the very same day of our visit and it is now a permanent exhibition at the Estonian History Museum in Maarjamäe Palace, Pirita tee 56, Tallinn. It is opened daily between 10 – 18 (1 May – 30 September) and Tuesday – Sunday between 10 – 18 (1 October – 30 April). Closed on public holidays, except 24 February and 20 August.
On behalf of the SCCE, I would like to thank the Estonian History Museum and our Premiere Tour Guide Maibel Napa for a couple of very interesting late afternoon hours this Centennial Jubilee Year. My thanks also go to the museum’s newly opened restaurant for a great buffet dinner which concluded our visit.
Sincerely,
Kristiina Sikk - SCCE Ombudsman
