It became a very exciting Sunday 9 September evening as SCCE members together with invited guests of the Embassy of Sweden gathered at the Ambassador’s Residence and followed the Swedish election outcome. And the election thriller continues.
As I write this Newsletter, Monday morning 10 September, only one seat in Riksdagen/The Parliament differs between the two traditional political blocs:
S+MP+V (Social Democrats, Green Party and Left Party): 144 seats
The Alliance (Centre Party, Liberals, Moderates and Christian Democrats): 143 seats
Riksdagen has 349 seats and right now, the Sweden Democrats has the remaining 62 seats.
“It’s a deadlock,“ comments BBC News this morning but it might very well be so that votes from Swedes abroad might change the final election outcome. These votes will be counted on Wednesday 12 September, and the final official election outcome will be announced on Friday 14 September.
In the middle of the election excitement, it became a very nice and cozy evening at the Embassy. We could meet and greet Mikael Eriksson, Sweden’s new Ambassador to Estonia, mingle, discuss and treat ourselves from a delicious Election Night Buffet.
On behalf of the SCCE, I would like to thank Ambassador Mikael Eriksson for his kind hospitality and look forward to continue the good and close cooperation between the SCCE and the Embassy of Sweden.
Sincerely,
Kristiina Sikk - SCCE Ombudsman
