image: The Start of the Festive Season 2018: SCCE’s Traditional Christmas Party The Start of the Festive Season 2018: SCCE’s Traditional Christmas Party

Despite the lack of snow outside, the spirit of Christmas was indeed present as SCCE got together for our traditional Christmas Party, marking the start of the Festive Season 2018. And again we could welcome a full house at Park Inn by Radisson Meriton Conference & Spa Hotel in Tallinn this Wednesday evening, 5 December.

Following the traditions, we were welcomed by a glass of glögg before we sat down and watched Lucia and her procession enter and perform the traditional Swedish Lucia songs and Christmas carols. Just like last year, the procession was composed of Swedish language students from Tallinn’s Gustav Adolfi Gümnaasium.

This year, we developed our traditions a bit further by naming SCCE’s Member of the Year and also making a raffle. Following his solid support of SCCE’s magazine focus and our curling events, Madis Rätsep, AJ Tooted, was named our Member of the Year 2018, and the winner of the raffle was Endel Tamm. Both Madis and Endel got a copy of Evelyn Mikomägi’s new book ‘Daughters’.

Furthermore, we took the opportunity to support the Swedish St. Michael's Church’s Christmas Bazaar by offering big bottles of very Swedish Julmust for sale. The Bazaar took place Saturday 8 December, and the income goes to the Church’s diaconal and social work. I was happy to note that all bottles of Julmust were sold!

On behalf of the SCCE, I would like to thank the team at Park Inn by Radisson Meriton Conference & Spa Hotel for an excellent Christmas Party set up and Västerbottensost who brought this classic Swedish cheese to the Julbord. And my sincere thanks also go to Eva-Tiina Põlluste and her Swedish language students from Gustav Adolfi Gümnaasium for a beautiful and solemn Lucia performance. Last but not least, my thanks go to all our members for creating yet another cozy start of the Festive Season filled with a true touch of a real Swedish Christmas.
