image: It doesn´t Appear on the Outside It doesn´t Appear on the Outside

- Quite often, it doesn’t appear on the outside that a colleague has problems with abuse and addiction. However, there are observable signs and when these appear, it is time to act with help and support, said Christer Nordin as SCCE gathered for a lunch seminar on abuse and addiction, Tuesday 15 September.

- To provide help and support is the right and natural thing to do, but still, many of us have problems to act. For example, we don’t want to interfere, it’s a sensitive topic, the colleague is an appreciated buddy at the workplace, continued Christer.

- However, there are many good reasons to act. Not only for the sake of the abusing and addicted person him or herself, but also for the sake of the company’s business performance. Abuse and addiction has an impact on productivity, safety, absence from work leading to direct additional costs for temporary staff replacements.

- One of several tools that can support us in acting is to make sure that the company has a written alcohol and drug policy, known to and understood by all employees. Having such a policy, offers us something concrete to lean on when it is time to approach the abusing and addicted colleague and provide the help and support needed, said Christer.

On behalf of the SCCE, I would like to thank Christer Nordin from No-Addict Scandinavia, and Tallink for a very good cooperation in arranging our lunch seminar.
