SCCE welcomes First Hand Theatre as a new member SCCE welcomes First Hand Theatre as a new member

MTÜ First Hand Theatre is an Estonian Puppetry Theatre, and it has activities in Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Finland and Germany.

FHT consists of two persons Külli Palmsaar and Hans Hartvich-Madsen. Külli Palmsaar is drama actress, puppeteer, puppet designer and cartoon synchronizer for Estonian TV. Hans Hartvich-Madsen is puppet director, lecturer and President of UNIMA Denmark.

The latest big international interactive exhibition and performance was Wonderland. Its main purpose was to introduce children to the world of puppetry. The audience could play with our different puppets, create their own puppets and play with them as well. The project was based on the books ”Alice In Wonderland” and ”Through The Looking Glass” by C. S. Lewis. Once an hour, the exhibition presented a professional shadow performance ”Regarding Alice”.  A normal visit usually lasted 2½ - 3 hours.

“Rehepapp´s world” was a puppet play based on different Estonian folk tales. MTÜ First Hand Theatre received in the start of 2014 3.000,- Euro from Estonian Cultural Endowment to the production of that performance. Külli Palmsaar is the puppet player and performer. Hans Hartvich-Madsen is the director and dramatizer. The play is written by Külli Palmsaar and Hans Hartvich-Madsen. The famous Estonian- Swedish sculpturer Gea Sibola Hansen created the scenography and puppets. The play opened in Tallinn in October 2014 in Tallinna Kammerteater and we gave 50 performances. It has been playing in Estonia, and it participated in a festival in Northeim in Germany in 2015, and on the way back it played in Warszawa in Poland. In the summertime it played in Kärdla on Hiiumaa and in Pärnu. In 2016 the performance played in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg in January and some days later it played in Roskilde in Denmark for one week.

In April 2017 a new play, “Unijärve Näkk” (“The Mermaid from the Dream Lake”) was presented and played for 10 times: in Tallinna Kammerteater, Kirjanike Maja, VENÜ etc. The play was partly included in Theatre Der Nacht´s performance “Die Versunkene Stadt” in August 2017 in Northeim, Germany. Performance was directed by world famous puppet artist Neville Tranter.
