Labor

FICE has chosen labor related topics as the main focus area this year. The lack of competent labor is an ongoing hot topic for all our members and needs to be addressed from several different angles by FICE as well.

FICE would also like to have a second topic to research closer this year and  need your help to decide which.

Two topics, as per below, have been selected and I ask you kindly to let me know your topic preference and who might be interested to participate by 15 January:

Energy
Estonia ranks 40th place in the World Energy Council Trilemma Index 2018, which makes the country far behind the majority of the EU28 countries. While improvements have been implemented to increase Energy security, i.e. by diversifying its energy imports through greater interconnection with its Baltic neighbors, Estonia scores lower on Energy equity (accessibility and affordability) and current energy price level is amongst the highest in EU, not the price as such, but when adding the cost plus network fee.
The score for Environmental sustainability remains unusually low. The mines are getting bigger and bigger for every year that goes by, leaving damage soil and nature for the following generations. Security concerns presented in the report are the threat of cyber-attacks.
To ensure that foreign investments arrive and remain in Estonia the country should increase its energy competitiveness. What are themost important to factors to address and solve?

Cyber security
Estonia often describes itself as the most advanced digital society in the world. How does the government protect the business community/citizens of Estonia from a potential failure of the digital infrastructure? If the system fails or is compromised, what measures are taken and are these sufficient?
How do the companies protect them self from hacker attacks? Do companies have the appropriate crises management and contingency plans in place? Once the crime has been committed, how and which authority will deal with this?

Very welcome to participate in FICE’s work 2019.

Sincerely,

Kristiina Brodén – SCCE Ombudsman
