U-turn triggers rally – and better growth? U-turn triggers rally – and better growth?

Welcomed by Ambassador Mikael Eriksson, members of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Estonia gathered at the Ambassador’s Residence in the Embassy of Sweden for a Tuesday 28 May Business Lunch with an Outlook on the economy presented by SEB’s Daniel Bergvall.

- The world economic growth has decelerated and several central banks around the world have now pushed the break on policy rate hikes, said Daniel Bergvall, an economist at SEB Economic Research in Stockholm, as he took us throw a set of major high-lights in SEB’s May issue of the bank’s Nordic Outlook.

In terms of commerce, trade and investments, Sweden is in the top league on the Estonian market; what happens in the Swedish economy has an impact on the Estonian economy.

- Sweden’s economy is slowing due to reduced housing construction and cautious household spendings. Furthermore, weaknesses in the German industrial sector, as well as negative and positive forces in the US, China and Europe, are altogether having an impact on the economic growth. Yet, loose fiscal policy and a weak krona will keep Swedish growth close to trend in 2019 and 2020, continued Daniel Bergvall.

SEB’s May issue of the Nordic Outlook is available online on this link: sebgroup.com.

On behalf of the SCCE, I thank Daniel Bergvall for yet another very interesting presentation on the International, Swedish and Nordic economy. My thanks also go to Ambassador Mikael Eriksson, Katrin Valdek and the team at the Embassy of Sweden for a great set up and a very good and smooth cooperation in organizing the Business Lunch. Last, but not least, my thanks also go to the Embassy’s Head Chef, Teet Laur, for an absolutely delicious Business Lunch Buffet.

Sincerely,

Kristiina Brodén - SCCE Ombudsman
