The Basics of Providing First Aid The Basics of Providing First Aid

At any scene of sudden sickness or accident, a quick and correct First Aid response might make the difference between life and death. On Friday afternoon 22 April, Johan Nyman and Kia Brummer from Johanniterhjälpen in Finland taught us and gave us hands-on demonstrations of the basics in providing First Aid.

- Don’t ignore an injured person but go and help. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive at the scene, there are a wide range of actions that can be taken by using common sense and things being at hand, said Johan and Kia.

With that as a background, we learned how to make a first splint of a broken arm and continued with the basics of artificial respiration as well as CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Furthermore, we learned how to stop a bleeding and make a bandage on an open wound with what might be available at the scene.

Many thanks to Johan Nyman and Kia Brummer for a very interesting afternoon and equally many thanks to the Swedish St. Mikael’s Church in Tallinn’s Old Town who provided their conference room for our training session.

Photos from the training session are available at SCCE’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/SwedishChamberOfCommerceInEstonia

Sincerely,

Kristiina Brodén – SCCE Ombudsman
