Once again, SCCE’s Summer Party has started up yet another Summer Season. This year we gathered at the courtyard of the Swedish St. Michael’s Church in Tallinn’s Old Town on Thursday evening, 25 May.
As the traditions call for, we got together over a welcome drink and SCCE’s Chairman Janar Sutt and Patrik Göransson, priest in the Swedish Church, wished us welcome and gave the word to Kairi-Liis Habicht.
Kairi-Liis had prepared a wide variety of different dishes from the Estonian-Swedish food heritage and gave us an introduction to their culture and to Aiboland – the islands and mainland coastal area where the Estonian-Swedes lived.
A traditional and classic Summer Buffet with Swedish and Estonian specialties was also waiting for us and accompanied with beer, wine and nubbe this very special edition of SCCE’s Summer Party really took off!
In addition to us singing the classic nubbe-songs, Tõnis Kark, also a priest in the Swedish St. Michael’s Church, played guitar and performed great songs from his own repertoire.
CD’s with Tönis’ songs were on sale, as was also the classic Swedish spring drink Påskmust. The income from these sales, which is still open for purchases, goes directly to the Church’s support of Gammalsvenskby in Ukraine. The village has an Estonian-Swedish heritage and its inhabitants are severely affected by the Russian aggression and warfare; people are dying and schools, health care and other public centers, and homes have been bombarded to pieces.
Headlined “From Hiiumaa to the Shore of the Dnieper River”, focus – the magazine of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, published an article on Gammalsvenskby in the first issue last year. This issue, as all other issues, is available online in .pdf-format at www.swedishchamber.ee.
Many warm thanks to all the good people at the Swedish St. Michael’s Church for hosting us. And, also many warm thanks to Kairi-Liis Habicht for giving this summer party an Estonian-Swedish twist. SCCE’s thanks also go to Catering Service for providing yet another classic Summer Buffet. And, last but not least, many thanks to all participants for making our Summer Party both cozy, fun and filled with togetherness.
