image: The Next Frontier: Economic Convergence The Next Frontier: Economic Convergence

“This presentation will focus on the challenges facing economic convergence. What can we expect from the Baltic countries in the years to come – and what has to be demanded from politicians – and what will be the consequences,” says Morten Hansen, Head of the Economics Department at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, as an introduction to the March 13th Business Seminar on The Next Baltic Frontier: Economic Convergence.

“Contrary to the boom times of pre-2008, the Baltic countries of 2014 do not face any short term imbalances. Inflation is low, wage developments subdued, government budgets under control and trade deficits are minor – it is the long term issues that are of main importance, in particular economic convergence, demographics and migration. My presentation will argue that the way these issues are related will present the Baltic countries for a tough uphill struggle with some unpleasant side effects such as a very prolonged period of catch-up with continuing migration pressure,” concludes Morten Hansen his introduction.

In addition to Morten Hansen’s presentation, Nellija Titova, SSE Riga’s Director of Executive Education and Executive MBA Department, will commence the Business Seminar by giving us an insight into the SSE Riga Executive MBA programme.

The Business Seminar will be rounded off with a Q&A session followed by an informal reception and a snack buffet with wine.
