image: Sweden in a changing Europe Sweden in a changing Europe

Very welcome to meet Urban Ahlin, the Speaker of the Riksdag (Sweden's Parliament), at this year's first Business Breakfast where Mr. Ahlin will speak about Sweden in a changing Europe.

Hosted by Ambassador Anders Ljunggren, we will meet in the Residence at the Swedish Embassy in Tallinn. During the breakfast we will of course also get the opportunity to put questions to Mr. Ahlin, who visits Tallinn 20-21 January, invited by Eiki Nestor, the Speaker of Riigikogu (the Estonian Parliament).

Urban Ahlin has been the Speaker of the Riksdag since the parliamentary elections in September last year. The Speaker is the Riksdag's principal representative, and as such directs and organizes the Riksdag's work procedures assisted by three Deputy Speakers.

The office of Speaker is the highest position to which a person may be elected in Sweden. The Speaker ranks after the Head of State, that is to say, after King Carl XVI Gustaf, but before the Prime Minister. The Speaker is expected to be impartial in relation to the political business of the Riksdag and does not participate in the work of the committees, or in debates and votes in the Chamber. As the foremost representative of the Riksdag, the Speaker often represents the Riksdag in various national and international contexts.
