Trolls, hate speech and crowd censorship: Limits on press freedom On the 3rd of May 2016, 14.00–16.30, Museum of Occupations, Toompea 8, Tallinn
What is the impact on press freedom of aggressive online discussion? Have trolls succeeded in silencing journalists? So-called crowd censorship is spreading on the web, how does it threaten freedom of speech and democracy?
250 years ago the Parliament of Sweden issued the most liberal Freedom of the Press Act ever. Preventive censorship was abolished and the principle of transparency emerged. The author of the act was Anders Chydenius, a Finnish Member of Parliament. How does the legacy of Chydenius look today?
