image: Movie Evening and Reception Movie Evening and Reception

This year, Sweden’s and Estonia’s neighbor Finland celebrates its 100th Anniversary. As part of the celebrations, you are very welcome to join for a 24 November Movie Evening and Reception in Tallinn’s Kinomaja.

Our movie this evening, Perkele! Kuvia Suomesta/Fuck Off! Images from Finland from 1971, has several Swedish connections. It was not only filmed all around Finland but also in Sweden and the production team includes personalities well-known to Swedes. Among them Jörn Donner as one of the directors, M.A. Numminen composed the movie’s songs with Arja Saijonmaa as one of the performers.

Jörn Donner will take part in this evening’s reception and he has for long periods lived and worked in Sweden. As managing director of the Swedish Film Institute 1978 – 1982, he was one of the producers of Ingmar Bergman's film Fanny and Alexander. In connection with the 1971 premiere of Perkele! Kuvia Suomesta Jörn Donner is quoted to have said: ‘In this movie we are guilty of the biggest madness of our career, but I don’t regret it for a minute, since a more many-sided view of the Finnish people you are not likely to get. And if this movie is in some way mad, the fault lies with the people of Finland.’

Our program this evening is a collaboration between the Embassy of Finland, the Finnish institute in Estonia, FECC, PÖFF, Midnight Sun Film Festival, and SCCE:
