image: The First 94 Years - “Let us remain Estonians, but let us become Europeans too.” The First 94 Years - “Let us remain Estonians, but let us become Europeans too.” The four Nordic Chambers of Commerce in Estonia continue the tradition of celebrating Vabariigi Aastapäev – Estonia’s Independence Day. In connection with this year’s 94th Anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, we invite to a February 21st festive dinner at downtown Tallinn’s Mannerheim Restaurant.

The headline to this invitation is a quote from the Estonian poet Gustav Suits as he expressed the ideology of Noor-Eesti (Young Estonia); a literary group established around 1905 and led by Gustav Suits focusing on an aesthetic programme:

"What buoys up and exalts humanity is education. Our slogan is: More culture! More     European culture! Let us remain Estonians, but let us become Europeans too."

As the name implies, Mannerheim Restaurant has named their venue after Baron Gustaf Mannerheim; the Finnish statesman and Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal, and the sixth President of Finland (1944–1946). A legend already in his lifetime, he was also a well known gourmand who succeeded in combining the best of the French and Russian cuisines.

Following our get-together over a welcome drink, Rudolf Visnapuu – Mannerheim Restaurant’s Chef de Cuisine and one of the few Cordon Bleu Chefs in Estonia – will present his specially composed four course Independence Day Dinner including Estonian classical dishes as well as some of Gustaf Mannerheim's favorites.
